Aluminium Sliding Windows
Sliding windows open without projecting into the space outside, which makes decks, walkways and play areas safe, and a window over a bench or sink easy to reach. Made to measure in Papatoetoe and installed by our own team.
Where a Sliding Window Makes Sense
A sliding window has one sash that glides sideways past a fixed pane on rollers in the bottom track. Because the sash stays in the plane of the wall, nothing swings out over a deck, a path or a child's play area, and nothing is there to walk into. That is the reason they are the usual choice beside decks and walkways, and along the side of a house where a path runs close to the wall.
The other place a slider earns its keep is above a kitchen bench or a laundry tub. An awning window over a deep bench means leaning across to reach a stay; a sliding window opens with a push from the handle at the edge, so there is no strain reaching to open and close it. In a bathroom a small slider with obscure glass gives privacy and fresh air without a sash swinging into the shower.
What You Get With a NuStyle Slider
- Smooth, quiet rollers in a track designed to drain, so the sash runs freely for years.
- A wide opening. Half the window opens, which is more free air than an awning of the same size.
- Double or single glazing, with Low E, laminated or obscure glass to suit the room.
- A slim flush pull lock. The Doric DN551 sits flush in the sash and latches itself when the window closes. See the hardware page.
- Any colour. Our standard Dulux powder coat colours and the anodised finishes are on the colours page.
- Standard or thermally broken frames. The thermally broken joinery page explains the difference.
Sizes and Layouts
Sliders are made in several layouts: one sliding panel beside a fixed one; double sliding, where both panels slide from either end; and biparting, where the middle panels slide out to each side. Any of them can be a single wide window or one of a run of windows separated by mullions. Very wide openings are usually better served by a sliding or stacker door, and a servery between a kitchen and an outdoor table by a bifold window. We measure the opening and talk through the layout with you before anything is made, and the sash can slide left or right to suit where you stand.
Sliding Windows in a Replacement
Older homes often have sliding windows already, and a new double-glazed slider drops into the same opening. Where the old window was an awning that fouled a path or a deck, a slider is often the better replacement. Our installers handle the whole swap in a day for most rooms; the window replacement page explains the process and the lead time.
Every window we make is tested and certified for New Zealand conditions through our membership of the Window and Glass Association of New Zealand.

Sliding Window Questions
Can a sliding window stay open in the rain?
Not in driving rain, because the opening is vertical. For all-weather ventilation pair a slider with an awning window, or choose the awning for that room.
Are sliding windows secure?
Yes. The sash locks at the handle and the track stops it being lifted out. Sliding windows do not have restrictor stays, so if you want a window you can leave ajar with the house locked, choose an awning window with a security stay for that room.
Do the tracks fill with dirt?
Any bottom track collects some dust. A vacuum and a wipe when you wash the joinery keeps the rollers running freely. The maintenance guide covers the routine.
How big can a sliding window be?
Large. The sash runs on rollers rather than hanging from hinges, so a slider carries a bigger pane of double glazing than an awning. Past a certain width we would suggest a sliding door instead.
