Aluminium Bifold Doors
Bifold doors are the ideal way to connect indoor spaces with patios, gardens and decks. Their sliding, folding panels can be arranged in almost limitless configurations, improving access and bringing the outside in.
Open the Whole Wall
A bifold door is a row of hinged panels that run on rollers in the bottom track (ours are bottom rolling). Pull the lead panel and the whole run concertinas to one end, leaving the opening completely clear, from the floor to the head and from jamb to jamb. For a living room that opens onto a deck or a patio it is the closest thing to removing the wall, and on a summer evening the room and the deck become one space.
We have been supplying and fitting our range of bifold doors for many years and believe they offer the best combination of elegance, innovation, engineering, security and value available on the New Zealand market. The Dannemora project has a matt black bifold from the living room to the deck, beside a bifold servery window from the kitchen.
Configurations
- Two to seven panels, folding to the left, to the right, or splitting to both sides.
- A traffic door. One panel hinged to swing on its own, so you can step out without folding the whole run.
- Corner bifolds that meet at a post-free corner and open two walls.
- Outward opening only. The panels fold out onto the deck, never into the room, so nothing inside has to move.
- 90 degrees or foldback. The folded panels can stand at 90 degrees to the wall, or with our foldback option they fold right back against the cladding.
We draw the layout with you during the measure, and the OMEGA systems we fabricate on are engineered for the panel sizes and the wind loads of New Zealand sites.
Warm, Secure and Easy to Live With
The 2025 collection offers superior thermal efficiency, and is safe and secure for all the family. Each panel has the option of double or single glazing, with Low E glass to hold the heat in winter and thermally broken frames available. The bifold lever and multipoint lock pull the panels tight when closed; the folded wall is as secure as a fixed one. Choose any of our standard Dulux colours or an anodised finish from the colours page, and the handle and lock options on the hardware page.
Bifold or Stacker?
A bifold clears the entire opening but the stacked panels sit at one end, either standing at 90 degrees to the wall or, with the foldback option, folded back against the cladding. A stacker door slides its panels behind one fixed panel, so nothing projects and nothing needs swing space, but one panel's width stays closed. On a deep deck most people choose the bifold; on a narrow balcony or beside a walkway, the stacker. We are happy to talk it through.
Installation
A bifold is only as good as its installation: the head must be straight and the sill dead level or the panels will not fold cleanly, which is why our own installers fit them. On an existing house a bifold often means a wider opening and a new lintel, which is structural work for your builder. In a house of up to two storeys that work is generally exempt from building consent, but it still has to meet the Building Code, so the lintel must be properly sized; building.govt.nz has the official guidance. We coordinate the joinery with the builder's programme.

Bifold Door Questions
How wide can a bifold door be?
Up to seven panels in one run on the systems we fabricate, which is a very wide opening. Beyond that we split the run or combine a bifold with fixed glazing.
Do bifold doors open in or out?
Out. Our bifolds open outward only, folding onto the deck and never into the room. The folded panels stand at 90 degrees to the wall or, with the foldback option, lie flat against the cladding. If there is no room outside for the stack, a stacker door keeps every panel in the line of the wall.
Do bifold doors leak or rattle in the wind?
Not when they are made to the right size for the wind zone and installed level. The panels lock to each other and to the frame at several points, and compression seals close the gaps. Auckland is a windy place and we specify accordingly.
Can I have a screen on a bifold door?
Retractable insect screens can be fitted across the opening. A security door is better suited to a hinge or sliding door.
Which colour do most people choose?
Matt Black / Ebony is the most common on new homes, followed by the whites and the dark greys. All our standard Dulux colours cost the same.
